Performance of first Bi-2212 cable with pre-over pressure and over pressure heat treatment

Abstract Due to the excellent current carrying performance of Bi 2 Sr CaCu O 8+ x (Bi-2212) and development its industrial manufacturing technology, Bi-2212 is a promising material be developed as superconductor for application in fusion reactor magnets. The cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) concept often chosen large-scale magnets because their high stability. presently only kind copper oxide superconducting which can made into solid round wire, provides good basis developing CICCs. over pressure (OP) heat treatment significantly improve wires but it also reduces wire diameter by ∼5%. This leads an increase void fraction CICCs, typically from 30% 40% CICC with ITER scale dimensions. A pre-OP before OP proposed this study. reduction completed formation continuous phase, would dramatically decrease fraction. One cable consisting 84 wires, was first treated successfully after completing treatment, cable’s transport tested. results showed critical ( I c ) 35.7 kA at 5.8 T background field 4.2 K, consistent predication.
